Standard Business Reporting

Standard Business Reporting (SBR) is an initiative of the Federal Government creating a standard set of rules for the collection of data from businesses for reporting to Government Agencies. This set of rules or protocols is called ‘national taxonomy’ (or reporting language) for reporting to government.

With Digital Certificate access to the Australian Business Portal due to be phased out by April 2012, we at SBR Consultants guide businesses through the implementation of SBR into their business functions.

As at May 17th 2010, the date from which SBR goes live, (i.e. the ABR website) not a single Australian software developer was SBR registered and certified.

Where businesses have custom designed financial accounting software, this software will require re mapping to meet the needs of SBR protocols for reporting to government agencies. In some cases the most cost effective decision for business may be to embed a new software program that meets SBR protocols or to interface a new program between current software and SBR.

For SME’s even standard reporting software will require ‘audit trail’ testing. SBR will need to be tested to ensure currently adopted General Ledger account layout and business reporting practices allows for the correct data to be captured by the SBR functions within the software.
